Special device placed immediately at the exit of a cartoning machine allowing a separate lid to be applied on to an open tray protecting the packages inside during palletisation and transit. This independent unit can be located with ease into an existing cartoning line. The solid cardboard lid is folded around the top section of a standard open tray and secured by means of hot melt gluing. It produces an elegant looking tray with a lid which is easily removable allowing the products to be taken directly from the trays on the shelves.
